Thomas Ashton Hollingsworth, II

Savannah- Mr. Thomas Ashton Hollingsworth, II, 88, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Hospice House.

Mr. Hollingsworth was a native and life long resident of Savannah. He graduated from Georgia Military Academy and during WWII he served as Lt. Bombardier in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was captured and spent two years as a prisoner of war in a German prison camp. Mr. Hollingsworth retired as President of Natrochem after more than thirty years and was a longtime member of the Tybee Historical Society. He was past District Treasurer with the Downtown Rotary Club, volunteered with The Mighty 8th Air Force Museum, Tybee Island Lighthouse and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 63 years.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lettye Leon Hollingsworth of Savannah; two sons and their wives, Thomas Ashton Hollingsworth, III Martha of Marietta and Mark Leon Hollingsworth Pam of Effingham County; daughter and son-in-law, Janis Hollingsworth Bowers Greg of Savannah; nephew, Charles Hollingsworth of Savannah; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors.

Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park with Rev. Earl Best officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc. P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

I only knew Tom for 32 yrs. He was a fine example of a person responsible to his flag, his faith, and his family. I learned a lot about leadership and business from Tom. He has always been an influencing part of my life. Along with his family, he will surely be missed but not forgotten. Love you Tom.
